Is a Russian Jewish oligarch with Israeli citizenship and close ties to both Vladimir Putin and Benjamin Netanyahu running a secret cyber-communications channel between Donald Trump's presidential campaign and Russian authorities? The first point of contact for the Trump server using the new name was from an Alfa Bank server, which experts said would be impossible were it not for some external form of communication between someone in the Trump Organization and Alfa Bank.
Alfa Bank, the largest private commercial bank in Russian Federation, responded to the claims as well. Davis, who won an FBI Director Award for Excellence for his work tracking down the authors of one of the world's nastiest botnet attacks, said of the Trump-Alfa Bank server links, "It looked weird, and it didn't pass the sniff test".
Election officials in several states have reported what appeared to be cyberintrusions from Russian Federation, and while many doubt that an Election Day hack could alter the outcome of the election, the F.B.I. agencies across the government are on alert for potential disruptions that could wreak havoc with the voting process itself.
Trump campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks said the server in question, which had been used to send out hotel marketing material, had been dormant for years.
And there's a report from Mother Jones citing a "former senior intelligence officer" that there's evidence that the ties between Trump and the Russian government are very direct.
This isn't a matter of partisan disagreement about the rules the FBI follows about ongoing investigations.

One of these memos seen by Corn said that the effort to help Trump is "endorsed by Putin" and aims "to encourage splits and divisions in western alliance".
In August, the Federal Bureau of Investigation reportedly asked the agent for all his information and sources.
"They certainly don't clear or tell me in advance what they're going to do", he said.
The FBI refused to comment. But in the past six weeks, the bureau opened a broad investigation into ties between Moscow and the Republican Party. Comey has come under fire for not speaking on the curious Kremlin connections among accusations of hacking and trying to influence America's election that seem to benefit Trump.
And the Trump campaign shared the following statement on Monday evening. Hillary Clinton is the author of the Russian "reset", which proved most beneficial for Putin (e.g., with respect to missile defense for the Poles and the Caechs). "I think you'll be rewarded mightily by our press!"
Comey has been criticized for releasing the information on Clinton's emails but not any information about the FBI investigating Donald Trump for ties to the Russian government. "It's about a threat to democracy".
In this July 17, 2016 file photo, Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort talks to reporters on the floor of the Republican National Convention at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters Tuesday that Russian Federation "could not agree" with Parker's claims. Manafort has denied any wrongdoing.
