The protest was incited by newly released surveillance footage - taken from the same store - of Michael Brown engaging in a transaction with store employees shortly after 1 AM on August 9, 2014, about 11 hours before he was shot and killed by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson.

Police officers were asked to come the Ferguson Market around 10:45 help control the crowd, the department said. At the time, police said that Brown robbed a convenience store of cigarillos prior and officer Wilson confronted him afterward, which led to the deadly shooting.

More than two years after the shooting of black teen Michael Brown ignited the Black Lives Matter movement, new video from the convenience store Brown had allegedly robbed is shifting the narrative of what happened that night.

It's name being a play off of the Billie Holiday revealing classic about southern racism, STRANGER FRUIT replays the events that lit the fuse for a week of riots and destruction - the moment when Michael Brown was shot by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson.

But Pollock, the documentary maker, argues the first video shows Brown gave the cigarillos back to the store clerks who then put them behind the counter. Brown giving a small bag of marijuana to store employees and receiving cigarillos in return as part of a negotiated deal. He then appears to have the employees hold the cigarillos for him behind the counter before he leaves, all taking place in the early hours of the day he died.

Brown, who was black, was unarmed.

He said he will release the full video today that shows the clerks rejecting a bag of marijuana.

Police say the new footage is irrelevant to their investigation.

That, Pollack has said, raises questions about police assertions that Brown had been suspected of robbing the store of cigarillos later that day.

STL Today reports that a new documentary shows the teen apparently contradicting accounts made by police that said the 18-year-old committed a strongarm robbery at Ferguson Market & Liquor.

Wilson "connected" Brown to the robbery call only after pulling him over for walking in the street, the former chief said. "The reason he gave it back is he was walking out the door with unpaid merchandise and they wanted it back", Kanzler told the newspaper.

The trial is expected to begin next year.
