Tornado touched down in Chesapeake Thursday afternoon, NWS confirms

At least 17 tornadoes struck Louisiana during a severe weather outbreak that began Sunday and ended Monday, the National Weather Service said.

Congress has sent to President Trump HR-353, a bill authorizing a number of programs to enhance federal government weather forecasting while requiring greater oversight of contractors by the National Weather Service. Several buildings were damaged by a confirmed EF-0 tornado that impacted Antreville, Anderson County, South Carolina yesterday, Thursday April 6, with estimated wind speeds of around 80 miles per hour (130 mk/hr). No injuries were reported.

Another EF-0 tornado was confirmed near Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in the District of Columbia.

As far as Virginia Beach, which saw about 20 homes in Sandbridge damaged Thursday, Zimmerman said the center will survey the area Friday.
