Three people were shot dead and a fourth injured in Fresno, California on Tuesday before a suspect was apprehended by authorities.
Police were searching for the revolver Muhammad said he tossed into a pile of clothing.
Zackary Randalls was the first to die when Kori Ali Muhammad walked up to a Pacific Gas and Electric truck and opened fire on the passenger. After the victim fell to the ground on his back, "Kori Muhammad then stood over him and fired two more rounds into him while he was lying on the ground". They scattered, and the gunman picked an "older gentleman" who appeared to be heavier, David Jackson, and shot him twice. "And that is what he set out to do that day", Dyer says. Muhammad's grandmother said she didn't believe he was homeless.
"What Kori (Muhammad) said was that he fired his weapon at Carl Williams because he felt that Carl Williams had disrespected him", Dyer said.
Dyer says Muhammad isn't a terrorist but is a racist and described the slayings as a hate crime.
Dyer said officers asked Muhammad why he chose to surrender.
Dyer said that the officers who responded to the scene saw a black man running.
He wrote that his "kill rate increases tremendously on the other side" and also posted about "white devils". He later took a bus to Herndon and Milburn avenues, where he stayed Friday through Sunday in a ravine, "practicing what he decribed as voodoo rituals", Dyer said. Fresno's police chief said his former name was Cory McDonald.
During his arrest, Muhammad shouted "Allahu Akbar", but Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said the shootings had "nothing to do with terrorism in spite of the statement he made". He was already wanted for the alleged murder of a security guard at Motel 6 on Thursday.
Google plans to launch its own ad-blocker in Chrome
Lots of folks run ad-blocking add-ons in their browsers, but soon Google may be adding an ad-blocker of its own to Chrome. Citing unnamed sources, the report also claims that Google is still considering how best to implement its plans.
Muhammad - after killing Williams - fled and climbed up on top of a 7/11 where he watched police and news media at the scene of his crime, Dyer said. He continued saying that this shooting was "unprovoked".
He had at least two prior mental health hospitalizations, and his attorney said in court papers that Muhammad thought the justice system and his own lawyer were conspiring against him. Dyer said he dropped two necklaces he was holding that he said were charms to ward off evil and gave himself up to police.
He allegedly pointed the gun at three Hispanic females - a woman, her adult daughter and her 4-year-old granddaughter - who heard the gunshots and got into their auto, which then had trouble starting. He told her he loved her, too.
The brother of a California man who Fresno police say shot and killed a motel security guard and three other men he targeted for being white says he's shocked by the killings.
In the meantime, new information about the victims of the deadly rampage is being released.
Another victim, a 37-year-old man, had just picked up a bag of groceries Tuesday at a Catholic Charities building when he was gunned down. Muhammad is also suspected of killing a security guard last week at a Motel 6.
Prosecutors say the suspect in a racially motivated shooting rampage in Fresno could be arraigned on murder charges by the end of the week.
Government offices, including the Fresno County Courthouse, have been placed on lockdown as a precaution.
