James shot and wounded United States House of Representatives Majority Whip and representative for Louisiana's 1st, Steve Scalise, who was at the second base area during a Republican baseball practice in Alexandria.
Sanders, however, made it clear he was "sickened" by the shooting and condemned the act as "despicable". The shooter, identified as James T. Hodgkinson of Belleville, Illinois, was a Sanders supporter and volunteered for Sanders' 2016 campaign for president.
In a March 22 Facebook post, Hodgkinson, who turned his ire against Trump, who he described as a "traitor".
Congressman John Shimkus (R, Illinois-15) released the following statement regarding the shooting at this morning's practice for the annual Congressional Baseball Game for charity.
Investigators said they found anti-Trump messages on the shooter's Facebook social media page.
Bernie Sanders revealed Hodgkinson "apparently volunteered" for his campaign to represent the Democrats in last year's presidential election.
"Now, that I've seen the (suspect's) photo, I've got to believe that he was the guy, " DeSantis said on MSNBC.
Ostapenko enjoys many firsts on 20th birthday
It was clear from the start that Ostapenko was going to be the aggressor and she edged a first set in which she hit 21 winners. Bacsinszky , who recorded five aces in the loss, broke through in the seventh game en route to claiming the second set.
None of that stopped some conservatives from concluding that Hodgkinson was aiming to injure Republicans specifically, and that he was driven by a liberal culture that glorifies violence against GOPers.
He was accused in 2006 of punching a woman in the face and of aiming a gun at her boyfriend. The charges were dismissed, records show.
Scalise dragged himself off the infield leaving a trail of blood as colleagues rushed to his assistance.
Scalise's office said earlier Wednesday that he was in stable condition following the shooting, although MedStar Washington Hospital Center said Wednesday afternoon that Scalise remained in critical condition. "America is praying for you, and praying for all the victims". Both he and the two police officers shot are expected to recover. "And, Steve, I want you to know that you have the prayers not only of the entire city behind you, but of an entire nation and, frankly, the entire world". "I thought it was some exercise".
Hodgkinson died shortly after the attack.
He said he had spoken with Mr Scalise's wife, Jennifer, and pledged his support. "We are with her and with the entire Scalise family".
Other lawmakers were stunned in the aftermath of the event, which raised questions about the security of members of Congress.
On Facebook, Hodgkinson was a member of a group called "Terminate the Republican Party", a fact that seemed to take on chilling new meaning in light of an account from South Carolina Rep. Jeff Duncan.
