Amazon buys Lucille Ball biopic starring Cate Blanchett

Oscar victor Cate Blanchett has been attached to play the beloved, Emmy-winning comedian in the authorized telling of the sitcom stars' romantic and business partnerships. A resident of Jamestown, New York, her legacy was the inspiration for the Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz Center comedy museum and the Lucille Ball Comedy Festival, both of which take place in her hometown.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon nabbed the rights to distribute the film - which Deadline claims is titled Lucy and Desi - once production is complete.

Escape Artists and the couple's children, Lucie Luckinbill and Desi Arnaz Jr., will produce the film about the lovable redhead and the Cuban bandleader.

"Lucy and Desi" will follow the relationship between the "I Love Lucy" couple, whose relationship was well-known on screen and off.

Blanchett's next film, 'Thor: "Ragnarok" sees the two-time Academy Award victor in a very new role, as Hela the goddess of death.

The script has reportedly been around since 2015, with Aaron Sorkin, the screenwriter behind "The Social Network", "Moneyball" and the creator of shows like "The West Wing" and "The Newsroom".

The studio is said to be moving quickly to find a big name actor for the role of Desi Arnaz, with Javier Bardem mentioned as one possibility. The Australian actress might not be known for her comedic roles, but as Ball said herself: "I'm not amusing".
