'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha' mints over Rs 13 crore on opening day

Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar's romantic-comedy, "Toilet - Ek Prem Katha" makes it to the theatres today.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Swachh Bharat Abhiyan forms the basic premise of "Toilet: Ek Prem Katha" but Akshay says he did not do the film exclusively on the merit of the script.

It failed the cross the opening day record of Akshay's previous outing Jolly LLB 2 (Rs 13.20 crore) by a small margin. It has been made with limited budget of Rs. 18 crore and is released in 3000 screens in India. At a time when films are bitting the dust at the box office, Akshay Kumar's film is expected to do better this weekend. The film has collected 13 crores on the first day at the Indian Box Office. "#TEPK." The collection is less than the day 1 collection of Jab Harry Met Sejal. But the first-day collection of Akshay's film proved that despite bad performance SRK remains the king at the box office.

In the film, Akshay plays the role of Keshav who is Wednesday to Jaya (Bhumi).
