The Congress, which had till 2013 ruled Delhi for 15 years straight, came third with 31919 votes.

Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken said that party performed well as their vote share has increased from 7 percent to 25%.

Stating that the party was re-gaining some of the votes lost to the AAP in 2013 and 2015, Delhi Congress vice-president Chattar Singh said that the party won in two of the six municipal wards in the constitency - Nangal Thakran and Pooth Khurd. AAP won the by-polls with more than 24,000 votes and the party got total 59,886 votes.

"The by-elections are a moral defeat for BJP, as their candidates indulged in corrupt practices as official position was used by the two candidates to offer jobs to the voters", said Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Shantaram Naik while addressing a press conference in Panaji.

The voters have clearly rejected such political manoeuvring, which is just one of the steps which answer the question whether the BJP lost the election or the AAP won it and show that Modi seems to be repeating the mistakes made by Kejriwal, whereas the latter seems to have learnt from them.

One of the 12 reserved constituencies, Bawana has one of the largest concentration of voters-2.94 lakh-and is dotted with 26 villages, colonies, and slums. This by-poll was necessary after the death of sitting MLA Bhuma Nagi Reddy who had won the seat by a margin of 3,600 votes as YSRC candidate in 2014 but switched over to the TDP in February 2016.

The by-election was held because Ved Prakash had to resign as a legislator after shifting to the BJP.

In Andhra Predesh's Nandyal Assembly seat, TDP candidate B Brahmananda Reddy defeated YSRCP rival S Mohan Reddy by more than 27000 votes. Parrikar won from Panaji with a margin of 4,803 votes. The Congress finished third but put up a credible performance.
